SSV Jahn Regensburg

The club’s full name is Sport- und Schwimmverein Jahn Regensburg e.V.  It evolved from a gymnastics club which was founded in 1886 and is named after Friedrich Jahn, whose thinking had a huge influence on German sport in the 19th century, and who is recognised as the father of gymnastics in the country. Football was first played in 1907.

Despite such a long history the club has never belonged to football’s elite and has spent most of the last 110 years moving between the lower divisions. In recent years there has also been frequent financial worries and bankruptcy was only just avoided in 2005.

At the moment the club and its fans are enjoying a very successful run. Promotion from Regionalliga Bayern to 3.Liga in 2015-16 was followed by second highly successful season. A second place finish led to promotion to 2. Bundesliga following a playoff victory of 1860 München.
