Background

Despite being one of Germany’s oldest clubs, 1 FC Mainz only joined the Bundesliga for the first time in 2004.

The club can trace its roots back to 1905 when a club called 1 Mainzer Fussballclub Hassia 1905 was formed.  A series of mergers with other local clubs resulted eventually in the formation of 1 Mainzer Fu?ball- und Sportverein 05 in 1919.

The club went on to play successfully in  regional leagues until the formation of the Bundesliga in 1963 when theywere placed the 2 Bundesliga.  They went on to spend most of the next forty years in the second tier of German football before finally gaining promotion in 2004.

Stadium
Mainz play in the Coface Arena.  This striking stadium was opened in 2011 and has a capacity of 34000 (with 13700 standing places).  The architects have designed this very modern stadium to bring fans and close as possible to the action and to maximise the atmosphere.

You can order tickets at the online shop.  Prices start at 13.50 euros for standing places and a seat will cost between 27.00 and 45.00 euros.

The simplest way to get to the stadium is by shuttle bus from the main station
