Starting from Frankfurt

There are two sides to this city of 5.5 million inhabitants.

The skyline is dominated by tall buildings made of glass and steel. It is the headquarters of some of Europe’s biggest financial institutions, including the European Central Bank, as well as many multinational corporations. It is a city of money and power.

But at its heart, you will find a beautifully restored Altstadt, full of half-timbered houses, old-fashioned wine taverns, parks, gardens and riverside walks. There are galleries and museums and a nightlife to rival any city in Germany.

Frankfurt would be a great base for a holiday even if you didn’t want to see some football. It is also surrounded by beautiful countryside and famous tourist destinations are within easy reach.

  • It is close to the Taunus mountain range and the historic Romantic Road, which connects a series of beautiful towns and villages.
  • The Rhine valley is even closer, and you are also only an hour from the Black Forest.

And Frankfurt is also a great base for the football traveller. You can see two clubs without even leaving the city – Bundesliga side Eintracht Frankfurt and fourth division FSV Frankfurt. Regionalliga Südwest club, Offenbacher Kickers, is just outside the city.

Two more Bundesliga club – 1 FSV Mainz 05  and 1 FC Heidenheim – withn easy reachSV Darmstadt 98, Würzburger Kickers  from the 2 Bundesliga are within range. You can also easily get to 3. Liga club  SV Wehen Wiesbaden.
