Background

FC Augsburg’s roots go back to 8 August 1907 when a club called FC Allemande was formed.
Two years later the club was renamed BV Augsburg. In 1969 a merger with another local team, TSV Schwaben Augsburg led to a new club called FC Augsburg (FCA for short).
Success was a long time coming for the new club which played in the lower leagues right through to the late 1990’s and it was only in 2006 that the club reached the second division. In 2011 promotion to the Bundesliga followed, and FCA has retained its place in the top tier ever since.
A 3:1 victory away to Borussia Mönchengladbach on the last day of the 2014/15 season enabled the club to achieve its highest ever position in the league (fifth), and secured a place in the Europa League the following season.

Stadium

FCA play their football in the WWK Arena. The stadium, which was opened in 2009, has a capacity of 30,660, with 19,060 seats.

Ticket prices range from 14 euros for the cheapest standing tickets to 45 euros for the most expensive seats.  You can order tickets through the Online Ticket Shop.
You can’t pay with cash inside the stadium. Instead, you have to use an FCA Card. You can pick up one of these outside and inside the stadium (look for people in light green uniform). You will need to pay a 2 euro deposit and charge the card with some money. After the game, you return the card and get back your deposit and any remaining cash.

Getting there

There are frequent trains between Munich and Augsburg (The RE trains are a lot cheaper than the ICE trains, but take longer) and the journey will take about 50 minutes.
On matchdays trams run every five minutes from the main station to the stadium. Look for route number 8 and get out at a stop called “Fußball-Arena”. You match ticket will entitle you to free travel to and from the ground.
