In 1994 Spvgg Großaspach and FC Sonnenhof merged to form a new club called SG Sonnenhofgroßaspach. After over ten years in lower leagues the club won promotion in 2008 to the Regionalliga Süd, the fourth tier of German football. Further promotion, into the 3 Bundesliga, followed in 2014.
Stadium
The Mechanotronik Arena is a brand new, purpose-built stadium which was opened in 2011. It has a capacity of 10000, including 6500 seats. The average attendance is 1436
Directions
To get there you need to take the light rail (S3) from Stuttgart to Backnanger. From there you can get to the stadium on Bus 367 (getting off at a stop called “Hohrot”). The stadium is a short (15 minute) walk away.
